About the project

This volunteer program focuses on bridging social differences in Curaçao through the universal language of sport. Working with disadvantaged youth and special groups such as Venezuelan refugees, the project uses rugby, soccer and field hockey as tools for social development and community integration. In addition to teaching sports skills, volunteers help incorporate valuable life lessons into training sessions, creating safe spaces where youth from diverse backgrounds can connect and develop. Working closely with local coaches and sports organizations to ensure lasting impact, the program helps identify and nurture talented young athletes who can advance to national teams, while simultaneously improving sports participation throughout the island. By bringing young people from different communities together in a positive environment, the project works to break down barriers and promote greater understanding and cohesion in Curaçao society.

Airport pickup is included in your program, so be sure to share your flight details in advance. Return flights must be booked for after your program end date.

Visa

Most European, North American and many other nationalities do not require a visa for stays of up to 90 days in Curaçao. You will need a passport valid for at least 6 months after your stay, a return ticket and proof of sufficient funds. The program offers visa advice and support if needed.

Free time

Curaçao offers an incredible playground for your leisure time! When you're not coaching, explore more than 35 beautiful beaches with crystal clear waters, perfect for swimming, snorkeling and diving among vibrant coral reefs and tropical fish. The capital, Willemstad, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, invites you to wander through colorful Dutch colonial architecture, visit museums and store in boutiques and local markets. With your provided mountain bike, you can independently explore many coastal trails and neighborhoods. Join other volunteers for beach barbecues, boat rides or hiking adventures in Christoffel National Park. Curaçao's vibrant nightlife offers everything from beach bars to venues with live music. The rich cultural mix of Dutch, Caribbean and Latin influences means you can enjoy a variety of festivals, cuisine and cultural experiences. Regular social events organized for volunteers offer opportunities to make international friends while experiencing authentic local traditions and cuisine. Whether you prefer active water sports, cultural exploration or simply relaxing on paradisiacal beaches, Curaçao offers endless options for your days off.

A typical day

Your day begins with breakfast at your accommodation, after which you hop on your provided mountain bike to cycle to your assigned project location. Morning sessions typically consist of planning and preparing sports activities with local coaches, discussing specific community needs and adjusting your plans accordingly. You might spend the late morning at a local school promoting sports programs or leading a training session for a specific age group. After a break for lunch (which you arrange yourself), afternoon activities include more structured coaching sessions in rugby, soccer or field hockey, where you implement "Life Skills" components in addition to athletic training. You work with various groups - sometimes focusing on talent development, other times creating inclusive activities for refugee children or youth with fewer opportunities. Some nights may include community events or competitions, while others are free to explore the island, relax on the beach, or socialize with other volunteers. Each day brings different challenges and rewards as you build relationships with the youth and see their progress, both in sports skills and personal development.
